How should I photograph my horse’s hooves?
It all starts with a great photo. HoofScore works best with a clear, correctly positioned image to analyse and use as the basis for measuring hoof balance and tracking change over time.
One of the best ways to assess a horse’s hoof balance is from ground level, looking directly at the foot from the correct perspective. That can be difficult for a person to do consistently, but a smartphone makes it much easier to position the point of view from exactly where it needs to be.
For the best results, your horse should be standing square and properly weighting the foot being photographed. Position your phone low to the ground, use the correct angle and alignment, and avoid perspectives that distort the hoof or lower leg. Taking consistent photos also makes later scans more useful for measuring improvements over time.

What does HoofScore do?
HoofScore turns photographs of your horse’s hooves into objective measurements, a clear HoofScore (from 1 to 10), and practical information about hoof balance, alignment, and areas that may need attention.
You can establish a baseline for each individual foot on each horse, then scan again to see what has changed. Instead of relying only on memory, photos, or what you feel while riding, you get measurable information you can compare from one scan to the next.
We suggest scanning the feet directly before and after farrier visits, and on a monthly basis, to ensure you get early warning before your animals are experiencing discomfort.
HoofScore helps owners understand their horse’s feet more clearly and gives farriers, veterinarians, trainers and others involved in the horse’s care useful evidence to discuss and act on. It is designed to support professional expertise, not replace it.
How much does HoofScore cost?
Every HoofScore customer starts with a free 3-day trial. That gives you the opportunity to add your own horse, take your first hoof scans, see your horse’s HoofScore, and explore the measurements, insights and recommendations our software provides.
It means you can experience the accuracy, insight and practical value of HoofScore on your own horse before deciding whether to continue.
After your 3-day trial, HoofScore is available as a monthly or annual subscription. Current pricing is displayed in your local App Store.
Why should I monitor my horse’s hoof balance?
Your horse’s feet affect much more than the hooves themselves. Hoof balance can influence the horse’s whole body, affecting comfort, movement, soundness and performance.
Hooves also change continually through growth, trimming, shoeing, exercise, and other influences such as environment and nutrition. Regular monitoring helps you recognise meaningful changes earlier and have better-informed conversations with the team you choose to help care for your horses.

How do I get started with HoofScore?
Download HoofScore from your mobile App Store, create your horse’s profile and start your free 3-day trial.
The app will guide you through photographing each hoof and completing your first analysis. These initial results establish a baseline for each hoof's condition and your horse’s overall balance, giving you an objective point of comparison as your horse’s feet change over time.
From there, the process is simple: scan, understand the results, take action where appropriate, then scan again to measure progress.
Before taking your first photographs, we recommend watching our short demonstration video on how to take a great hoof photo above.
